چکیده
Roger E. Kahn and Michael J. Swain Department of Computer Science University of Chicago 1100 East 58th Street Chicago, IL 60637 Abstract In this paper we present Perseus, a purposive visual system used by our robot, CHIP, to locate objects being pointed at by people. Perseus uses knowledge about the task and environment at all levels of processing to more accurately and e ciently perform visual tasks.

Real-time Gesture Recognition with the Perseus System
Interpersonal communication involves more than simply spoken information. Gestures are commonly used to more e ciently and precisely communicate. An important gesture because of its descriptive power and frequency of use is pointing. To produce a more natural and powerful human-robot interface, we have developed a purposive visual architecture called Perseus and have used it to locate objects a...
متن کاملPerseus: Retrospective on a Portable Operating System
t We describe the operating system Perscus, developed as part of a study into the issues of computer communications and their impact on operating system and programming language design. Perseus was dcsigncd to be portable by virtue of its kernel-based structure and its Implementation in Pascal. In particular, machine-depcndcnt code is limited to the kernel and most operating systems functions a...
متن کاملTemperature Map of the Perseus Cluster of Galaxies Observed with ASCA
We present two-dimensional temperature map of the Perseus cluster based on multi-pointing observations with the ASCA GIS, covering a region with a diameter of ∼ 2. By correcting for the effect of the X-ray telescope response, the temperatures were estimated from hardness ratios and the complete temperature structure of the cluster with a spatial resolution of about 100 kpc was obtained for the ...
متن کاملNon-thermal X-rays, a high abundance ridge and fossil bubbles in the core of the Perseus cluster of galaxies
Using a deep Chandra observation of the Perseus cluster of galaxies, we find a highabundance shell 250 arcsec (93 kpc) from the central nucleus. This ridge lies at the edge of the Perseus radio mini-halo. In addition we identify two Hα filaments pointing towards this shell. We hypothesise that this ridge is the edge of a fossil radio bubble, formed by entrained enriched material lifted from the...
متن کاملASCA Observations of the Temperature and Metal Distribution in the Perseus Cluster of Galaxies
Large-scale distributions of hot-gas temperature and Fe abundance in the Perseus cluster have been studied with multi-pointing observations by the GIS instrument on ASCA. Within a radius of 20 from the cluster center, the energy spectra requires two temperature components, in which the cool component indicates kT ∼ 2 keV and the hot-component temperature shows a significant decline from about 8...
